Two of the biggest school districts in the country pulled AI out of the classroom in the same week.
On September 2nd, New York City paused student-facing generative AI in grades 2-K through 8. About 600,000 students. Los Angeles blocked it on district devices the next day. Another 378,000.
We are not going to tell you the schools got it wrong. Parents organized for months to get that policy and they won it.
But the policy covers software in school buildings. It does not cover the phone in your living room. The supervised version went away and the unsupervised version is still on the couch.
By not teaching all students about the appropriate use of AI in schools, we increase the likelihood that students will use it inappropriately at home.

A short program. One real thing, built and sold.
You pick one small service. You and your kid build it with AI tools that cost nothing, and you take it to one neighbor who might pay for it. A one-page site for the guy who fixes your car. A fixed-up Google listing for the corner store. A repaired photo for somebody's grandmother.
Your kid does the parts a kid is genuinely good at, which is more of it than you would guess. You do the parts that require a legal adult, which is the money. That part gets its own page, because everyone else skips it.
Why a sale and not a certificate. Most programs count who signed up and who felt more confident afterward. Both are easy to produce and neither means anything. A stranger deciding to hand you money is the only test we know of that cannot be talked up.
And what we will never tell you. We will not promise your family will make money, and you will not find a screenshot of someone's kid making $4,000 anywhere on this site. Most people who try this earn little or nothing. Anyone showing you otherwise is selling something, and several of them have been banned from doing it.
